Israel Centeno (Caracas, 1958). Escritor, crítico, profesor, editor y promotor de la literatura hispanoamericana contemporánea. Estudió Dramaturgia en la Escola d'Actors- Barcelona. Ha representado a su país en encuentros literarios internacionales. Ha recibido diversos premios, tales como el Premio Federico García Lorca, del Instituto de Cooperación Iberoamericana de España (1987), el Premio del Consejo Nacional de la Cultura (CONAC), el Premio Bienal de Guayana Lucila Palacios (1996) y el Premio del Concurso Anual de Cuentos del diario El Nacional (2003). En el año 2009, su novela inédita Bajo las hojas formó parte de la short list del III Premio Iberoamericano Planeta - Casa de América. Entre sus obras resaltan: Rabo del diablo y otros cuentos (1993), Criaturas de la noche (2000), Hilo de Cometa y otras iniciaciones (1996) Calletania (1992-2008), Exilio en Bowery (1997-1999), El complot (2002), Iniciaciones (2006) y Bajo las hojas (2010). Does human mortality after age 110 continue to rise, level off, or start to decline? This book describes a concerted, international research effort undertaken with the goal of establishing a database that allows the best possible description of the mortality trajectory beyond the age of 110. The International Database on Longevity (IDL) is the result of this ongoing effort. The IDL contains exhaustive information on validated cases of supercentenarians (people 110 years and older) and allows unbiased estimates of mortality after age 110. The main finding is remarkable: human mortality after age 110 is flat at a probability of death of 50% per year. The sixteen chapters of this book discuss age validation of exceptional longevity, data on supercentenarians in a series of countries, structure and contents of the IDL, and statistical analysis of human mortality after age 110. Several chapters include short accounts of specific supercentenarians that add life to demographic research.

About the Author
Jean-Marie Robine is a Research Director at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research within the "CERMES Research group" in Paris and the "MMDN lab" in Montpellier where he heads the research team "Biodemography of longevity and vitality". He studies human longevity, with the aim of understanding the relations between health and longevity. Since its creation in 1989, he has been the coordinator of the "International Network on Health Expectancy" (REVES) which brings together more some 100 researchers worldwide. He is the project leader of the Joint Action European Life and Health Expectancy Information System which provides analysis of disability-free life expectancies in the European Union (Healthy Life Years-HLY). He is co-responsible for the development of the "International Database on Longevity" (IDL) in association with the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (Rostock) and INED (Paris). He is one of the principal investigators of the "Genetic of Healthy Ageing" project (GEHA) and the project leader of the healthy longevity project granted by AXA Research Fund: the" Five-Country Oldest Old Project" (5-COOP).

JAMES W. VAUPEL is a demographer and is currently Director of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany. He is also Professor of Demography and Epidemiology at the Institute of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark, Odense, and Senior Research Scientist at the Sanford Institute at Duke University in North Carolina. His research focuses on human biodemography, human longevity and centenarian research. He has authored or edited numerous books in the field of demography, particularly oldest old mortality, including Population Data at a Glance (1997), The Force of Mortality at Ages 80 to 120 (1998), and Validation of Exceptional Longevity (1999).

Loved it

This is the third book in the series and I recommend starting with the first book to be sure to get all of the character background. That being said, this was my favorite so far of the three. I find myself in a good mood after reading them. It's kind of like an adult version of Nancy Drew mystery mixed with comedic antics. Rachael, the main character finds herself in new drama while some of the drama and characters from the previous books reappear. The series takes place in the 1980's and I love reminiscing, with things like binaca thong leotards. Cracks me up. I look forward to book #4!

Funny, but really needs to be edited

I found the story to be amusing, but the writing was so rife with errors that it was seriously distracting. Homophones, incorrect words used, etc.

Edited to add: The biggest error besides the horrible spelling and homophone mixups and the author using 'Midas' in place of 'might as' was the constant reference to marijuana as 'hooch'. Seriously? Get a decent editor and MAYBE this book would be better. I was being ridiculously generous when I gave it 3 stars.

Easy Read, Fun Series

Katie Lee and friends are an interesting bunch. This is a series and I plan on keeping up with it. This particular one will not make sense if you don't read the previous books I encourage you to start at the beginning, pure escapism, no stress reading but still thought out and well written. Think modern day college age Nancy Drew. Kudos to Paisley Ray
