Son influence sur la scène pop a été déterminante et a donné naissance à différents mouvements. Première biographie des Cocteau Twins, ce livre a bénéficié de témoignages récents, dont ceux de Robin Guthrie et Vaughan Oliver, et suit de près l’évolution d’un groupe peu enclin aux compromis, rétif à toute mode, qui a su vaincre ses démons.

Première Biographie des Cocteau Twins

Cette biographie bien documentée tient pour thème la singularité de Cocteau Twins dans sa dynamique, mais aussi dans sa quete pour donner un sens à leur son. Elle explique le décalage du groupe par rapport à la scène de l'époque. Les enjeux esthétiques deviennent alors une démarche non pas en réaction à la new wave, au gothique ou à l'After Punk, mais centrée autour des trois membre du groupe. On peut ainsi partiellement comprendre, sinon esquisser, la démarche initialement autistique de Robin Guthrie, à mon sens l'un des guitaristes les plus importants de la fin du 20ème siècle. Une ébauche se fait autour d'Elizabeth Fraser, montrant une jeune femme à la recherche de sa propre lumière intérieure dans sa voix et ses mots. On regrettera la faible part, à mon sens, accordée à Simon Raymonde, qui, on le soupsconne, fut le liant, le frère, l'ami, celui par qui le groupe put tenir si longtemps sous la tension du couple infernal.
La thèse de la singulartié de Cocteau Twins tenue, l'auteur peut mettre le groupe à l'origine de mouvement musicaux plus récent. On felicitera Jean-Christophe Manuceau pour accorder une grande part de son ouvrage au label 4AD, a ses créateur, aux graphistes de 23 Env. mais aussi aux membres du groupes qui continuent leures carrières en solo.
Espérons que cette première biographie redonne à Robin Guthrie au moins la place qu'il mérite dans l'histoire de la musique parmis les meilleurs guitaristes de sa génération avec les Bernard Butler, Johnny Marr, Tom Verlaine.

Single parenting is a gift from God

There is hope and help for the single parent and Tony Evans shows us the answers from scripture in his new book titled, "help & hope for the single parent." God can pick up where we fall, give us strength when we are weak, provide us with an extra boost of energy when we are dragging and super exhausted. God is a father to the fatherless and will be a mother to the motherless. Evans reminds us of God's love and that we are never alone. Being a single parent is a gift not a punishment. It was refreshing to be reminded of God's promises for me as a single mother.
